Titus Flavius Sabinus Vespasianus was the son of the emperor Vespasian. He was born in the year 39 and as he grew up, accompanied his father to many military campaigns. He destroyed Jerusalem in 70 and an arch was erected in his honor. When his father died, he threw out the policy of frugality and lived a luxurious life, showering the empire with lavish gifts. However, this caused financial mayhem for his heir. He was known for his generosity towards the distressed citizens of Rome during the disasters in his time. There is a rumor that his brother, Domitian, was the reason he died, but despite their differences, this has very little substance and should be dismissed as rumor. The Arch of Titus was actually commissioned by Domitian to commemorate his brother's conquest of Jerusalem. Titus died in the year 81.
