Nero, born 37, was the son of Agrippina the younger and stepson of the emperor Claudius. Nero killed his mother and became emperor when he was seventeen. In 64, the Great Fire of Rome occurred, and it was contemplated that he ordered it. His high living, as he was madly self-indulgent and cruel, angered the people of Rome and in 68, he was forced to commit suicide.
